Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's May 2024 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.
Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.8 percent in May 2024. This rate was 0.1 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.7 percent. The region's May 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.0 percent. The labor force was 1,091,105, up 7,662 (+0.7 percent) over the year. There were 31,039 unemployed residents in the region.
- In May 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach MD was 932,200, an increase of 21,100 jobs (+2.3 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+6,500 jobs); Education and Health Services (+5,000 jobs); Government (+4,500 jobs); Other Services (+3,900 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+3,400 jobs); and Construction (+1,700 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.9 percent in May 2024. This rate was 0.2 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.7 percent. The region's May 2024 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.0 percent. The labor force was 779,933, up 1,114 (+0.1 percent) over the year. There were 22,988 unemployed residents in the region.
- In May 2024, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 702,400, an increase of 11,700 jobs (+1.7 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+6,700 jobs); Construction (+3,400 jobs); Government (+3,100 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,600 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,000 jobs); and Manufacturing (+600 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.2 percent in May 2024. This rate was 0.3 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 1.9 percent. The region's May 2024 unemployment rate was 0.8 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.0 percent. The labor force was 1,455,748, up 40,679 (+2.9 percent) over the year. There were 32,391 unemployed residents in the region.
- Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.9 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (2.2 percent).
- In May 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,334,700, an increase of 33,800 jobs (+2.6 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+10,400 jobs); Education and Health Services (+7,500 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+5,300 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+3,700 jobs); Government (+2,900 jobs); Manufacturing (+2,400 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,100 jobs); and Other Services (+1,100 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in May 2024, unchanged from the April 2024 rate, and up 0.5 percentage point from a year ago. There were 361,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 11,081,000. The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in May.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,951,600 in May 2024, an increase of 6,000 jobs (+0.1 percent) over the month. The state gained 222,200 jobs over the year, an increase of 2.3 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 1.8 percent over the year.
- Seven of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in May.
