Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Employment & Training

Welcome to CareerSource Broward’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Employment and Training. For this program, you must have been referred by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to CareerSource Broward. Please follow the below instructions for work registering:

Step 1.

  • You should have received a letter from DCF instructing you to complete the online orientation and assessment. If you have not received a letter contact us using the information below.
  • Log on to the One Stop Service Tracking (OSST) client system at osstclient.deo.myflorida.com to set up your account and complete the online orientation and assessment.

Important note: You only have 7 days (from the date indicated on your letter) to create your account and complete the orientation and assessment. Your benefits will likely be affected if you don’t complete this step.

Step 2.

  • Once you have completed the orientation and assessment, you must schedule an appointment using the OSST client system. This will create an appointment with our Success Coaches to assist you with completing intake and orientation. Once you schedule the appointment, our staff will reach out to you to confirm your appointment and provide additional instructions.
  • To reschedule your orientation, see the contact information below and notify us as soon as possible. As a reminder, you only have 7 days to complete this process before your benefits are negatively affected.

Required Activities

These activities are put in place for your benefit to assist you in gaining meaning employment. In order for these activities to be effective, you are to complete 20 hours each week- a minimum of 80 hours each month. The activities are listed below:

Employment

If you become employed:

  • Contact DCF & CareerSource Broward immediately. DCF may be able to exempt you from the requirements of this program if you are working more than 30 hours per week.
  • You may not have to participate if you are working 20-29 hours per week. DCF will make the determination when they receive your employment documentation.
  • If you are working less than 19 hours per week, you will be assigned additional activities to fulfill your 80 per month requirement.

Job Search / Job Readiness

You can search for employment for up to 39 hours per month:

  • Using Employ Florida www.employflorida.com or other employment sites such as indeed, Career Builder or Monster.
  • Attending job fairs and job recruitments.
  • Applying in person.

Training / Education

You can use the following websites to complete your assigned hours:

  • Online education sites such as Metrix Learning increase your basic skills, computer skills, or work place skills. (https://careersourcebroward.metrixlearning.com/)
  • Self -initiated GED, vocational and educational training will be considered; you will need to provide documentation of enrollment on letterhead from your school.
  • Additional online sites can be approved through your Success Coach.

Work Experience

  • Must be completed at an approved nonprofit organization.
  • Must have appropriate documentation filled out by the employer and submitted to your Success Coach prior to starting your hours.
  • If you are interested in the work experience activity, it must be discussed with a Success Coach before submitting any hours.

Requesting to have a sanction removed from your case

Imposed/Effective sanctions - If a sanction has been imposed on your case, you have to first serve the penalty period before the sanction can be removed. You will receive a letter telling you the date the sanction will start.

Sanction levels and penalty periods:

  • Level 1 - 1 month/30 days
  • Level 2 - 3 months/90 days
  • Level 3 - 6 months/180 days

After you have served the penalty period, contact the SNAP department (contact information below) to receive further instructions on what you will need to do to get your sanction removed from your case.

If the sanction effective date has not passed you can contact the SNAP department to comply. Remember once the sanction effective date has passed, you have to serve the penalty period before you can comply with CareerSource Broward. We encourage all customers to communicate with us prior to the sanction being imposed so that we can assist with getting your case back on track.

Transportation Reimbursement Assistance

If you are interested in receiving help with your job search efforts, participating in activities and receiving Food Stamp Reimbursements (FSRs) to help offset the cost of transportation. A max amount of $25 can be given per month. Please discuss with your SNAP Success Coach or review the SNAP program activities presentation above.

There may be a lot of people trying to access the system at the same time. You have 7 days to complete the orientation and the assessment and schedule an appointment. If you can, try to access the system at different times in the day, including early mornings and/or late evenings.

Good News! Many of our services and activities are accessible by using your smartphone. If you feel you need to use a computer, you can go to any of the CareerSource Broward career centers or your local library. If visiting a center or library, please call ahead of time as they may require appointments in advance to enter the facility.

Coming into our centers:

Special measures have been put in place to protect you, our staff. In accordance with federal, state and local health guidelines, individuals who visit our career centers will be screened and subject to temperature checks prior to entering our centers. Customers who come to our centers must wear face masks and/or coverings at all times. Those displaying symptoms such as coughing, a fever or difficulty breathing will not be permitted to enter the career center, but will still be able to access online remote services.
