Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's August 2024 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.
Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.5 percent in August 2024. This rate was 0.2 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 3.3 percent. The region's August 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.7 percent. The labor force was 1,096,725, up 3,902 (+0.4 percent) over the year. There were 38,391 unemployed residents in the region.
- In August 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano BeachDeerfield Beach MD was 932,600, an increase of 24,700 jobs (+2.7 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Construction (+4,900 jobs); Government (+4,500 jobs); Other Services (+4,400 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+4,300 jobs); Education and Health Services (+3,600 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+3,200 jobs); and Professional and Business Services (+1,200 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.8 percent in August 2024. This rate was 0.3 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 3.5 percent. The region's August 2024 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 3.7 percent. The labor force was 779,614, down 2,873 (-0.4 percent) over the year. There were 29,441 unemployed residents in the region.
- In August 2024, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 698,400, an increase of 12,600 jobs (+1.8 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+3,300 jobs); Construction (+3,100 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+2,800 jobs); Government (+2,400 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,100 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+300 jobs); Other Services (+200 jobs); and Manufacturing (+100 jobs).

Miami-Dade County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade County) was 3.1 percent in August 2024. This rate was 1.1 percentage points greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.0 percent. The region's August 2024 unemployment rate was 0.6 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.7 percent. The labor force was 1,402,367, up 26,260 (+1.9 percent) over the year. There were 43,969 unemployed residents in the region.
- In August 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,335,200, an increase of 35,800 jobs (+2.8 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+9,000 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+8,400 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+7,300 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+6,500 jobs); Government (+2,500 jobs); Other Services (+2,200 jobs); and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,700 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in August 2024, unchanged from the July 2024 rate, and up 0.3 percentage point from a year ago. There were 368,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 11,044,000. The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in August.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,980,900 in August 2024, an increase of 2,000 jobs (less than +0.1 percent) over the month. The state gained 207,400 jobs over the year, an increase of 2.1 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 1.5 percent over the year.
- Eight of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in August.
