CareerSource Broward Announces Board Member Appointments

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – December 21, 2022 – CareerSource Broward, the administrative entity of the Broward Workforce Development Board announces the appointment of five new members to the Workforce Board: Dr. Vickie Cartwright, Michael Goldstein, Rufus James, Felipe Pinzon, and Shane Strum.

“We’re honored to have Dr. Cartwright, Michael Goldstein, Rufus James, Felipe Pinzon, and Shane Strum on our board,” says Carol Hylton, President, and CEO of CareerSource Broward. “Their diverse backgrounds, passion and perspective will be a tremendous asset to our team as we continue to provide employment solutions and workforce services to businesses and individuals in Broward County.”

Dr. Vickie Cartwright, Superintendent for Broward County Public Schools

Dr. Cartwright serves as the Superintendent for Broward County Public Schools, the nation's sixth largest school district. Dr. Cartwright earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Florida. She earned her Master's in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she obtained an Educational Specialist degree and Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Supervision.

Michael Goldstein, President and CEO of LAN Infotech, LLC

Since 2009, Goldstein has served as President and CEO of LAN Infotech, LLC, a local professional information technology consulting and engineering firm. Goldstein also serves as a Board Member and Technology Committee Chair for the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stony Brook University.

Rufus James, Manager of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport

James is the manager of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and has worked with the City of Fort Lauderdale for 20 years. James is a licensed pilot whose professional affiliations include the Florida Airports Council and the American Association of Airport Executives. James has served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Air Transportation Management from the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut, and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in international business from Florida Atlantic University.

Felipe Pinzon, President and CEO of Hispanic Unity of Florida

For over 20 years, Pinzon has been with the Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF), serving as the President and CEO since January 2022. Founded in 1982 as a haven for immigrants and refugees, HUF has grown to serve diverse and multi-cultural working families from the United States as well as more than 25 other countries. Pinzon earned his Master of Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health

The North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners named Strum the permanent President and CEO of Broward Health on February 8, 2021. Strum is a recognized leader with decades of executive experience. Most recently, Strum served as chief of staff to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. A native of Broward County, Strum’s legacy of public service has spanned nearly 30 years. Strum has an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Alabama.

CareerSource Broward is governed by a workforce board known as the Broward Workforce Development Board and the CareerSource Broward Council of Elected Officials, which consists of the elected mayors of Fort Lauderdale and City of Hollywood, and a Broward County Commissioner.
