CareerSource Broward Launches 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – June 19, 2023 – CareerSource Broward (CSBD), providing innovative employment solutions and quality workforce services to businesses and individuals in Broward County, has launched its 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). More than 1,000 students, a record high for CSBD, participated in the SYEP three-day employability skills workshop that took place at Dillard High School, Pompano Beach High School and Hallandale Beach High School.

“We are thrilled with this year’s tremendous enrollment in our Summer Youth Employment Program, having exceeded last year’s numbers by more than 40%. This will boost Broward’s economy by increasing the number of local young talent who are prepared to successfully enter our workforce,” said Carol Hylton, president and CEO of CareerSource Broward. “This dynamic program is designed to prepare youth for their future as working adults. It is a true learning experience, providing important lessons about how to conduct oneself in a professional atmosphere. These sought-after ‘soft skills,’ coupled with a real-life working experience, will set these students on a positive career trajectory.”

The SYEP provides Broward County students between the ages of 16 and 18 with paid employment ($14 per hour) between June and August. Teens were trained in basic soft skills with an emphasis on punctuality, personal appearance and professional presentation, communication, problem solving and teamwork. They will progress to work and hone these skills in a variety of jobs in the aviation, healthcare, municipal, construction, hospitality, information technology, retail, nonprofit, and other industries.

CSBD’s SYEP is primarily sponsored by Children's Services Council of Broward County with support from The Community Foundation of Broward, Bank of America, the City of Fort Lauderdale, and others.

The SYEP launch follows CSBD’s recent honor of being named Broward County Public Schools’ (BCPS) 2023 District Partner of the Year. The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of CareerSource Broward to the education system and the youth of Broward County.

CareerSource Broward is celebrating its 50th year of providing services to the community. In addition to its SYEP, CSBD has implemented numerous programs and initiatives aimed at providing career development and job opportunities, including paid internships, job fairs, and training programs. By partnering with local businesses and educational institutions, CareerSource Broward has created a pipeline for Broward County residents to enter the workforce and gain valuable skills and experience.
