Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (March 25, 2024) - CareerSource Broward received a $3 million grant from FloridaCommerce, which will be used in partnership with Broward Health to renovate a Multipurpose Community Facility. Once renovated, the Pompano Prenatal Pediatric Primary Care Center will house both healthcare and workforce workers and provide telehealth services and community access to broadband.

The facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology built into the infrastructure. The new CareerSource Broward space will feature reception and training rooms outfitted with computers available for public use, private telehealth rooms, and a resource room where job seekers can hone their job search skills, receive resume guidance, practice interview techniques, explore new career paths, and find employment.

"The grant from FloridaCommerce will allow us to bring critical employment services and job training directly into a community that needs it most," said Carol Hylton, President and CEO of CareerSource Broward. "By integrating these services into an existing healthcare facility, we can provide underserved residents with the tools and resources they need all in one centralized location."

“Under Governor DeSantis and Secretary of Commerce Alex Kelly’s leadership, the state of Florida continues to outpace the nation in job growth, often because of creative grant programs like the one established between CareerSource Broward and Broward Health,” said Broward Health President & CEO Shane Strum, who is a member of the Workforce Development Board that oversees CareerSource Broward, the local workforce agency. “A $3,000,000 grant from the state enabled Broward HealthPoint, a subsidiary of Broward Health that cares for under and uninsured patients, to renovate its Pompano Prenatal Pediatric Primary Care Center, but also now brings healthcare workforce development opportunities to the local community. Together, with CareerSource, we can address healthcare and employment needs in one convenient location thanks to state support."

Transforming the Pompano Care Center into a cutting-edge CareerSource One-Stop satellite and health destination will promote personal growth for the residents of the area while contributing to community well-being.

“It is with great pride that I recognize the efforts of our CareerSource Broward staff, who, in partnership with Broward Health, have been able to raise the funds necessary to renovate and establish a facility that will both provide access to healthcare in one of our most distressed zip codes and serve as a workforce center for CareerSource Broward, providing residents with career services,” said Heiko Dobrikow, Chair of the Broward Workforce Development Board.

With the grant funding secured, renovations on the Pompano Prenatal Pediatric Primary Care Center will begin in the near future.
