Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's December 2024 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.
Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.9 percent in December 2024. This rate was 0.1 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.8 percent. The region's December 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 1,085,153, down 7,650 (-0.7 percent) over the year. There were 31,278 unemployed residents in the region.
- In December 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano BeachDeerfield Beach MD was 948,400, an increase of 13,000 jobs (+1.4 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Government (+4,500 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+3,000 jobs); Other Services (+3,000 jobs); Construction (+2,300 jobs); Education and Health Services (+2,000 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,400 jobs); and Information (+100 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.0 percent in December 2024. This rate was equal to the region's year ago rate of 3.0 percent. The region's December 2024 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 773,826, down 6,494 (-0.8 percent) over the year. There were 23,281 unemployed residents in the region.
- In December 2024, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 712,300, an increase of 9,100 jobs (+1.3 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+4,300 jobs); Education and Health Services (+2,800 jobs); Government (+2,000 jobs); Construction (+1,900 jobs); Other Services (+500 jobs); and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+100 jobs).

Miami-Dade County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade County) was 2.5 percent in December 2024. This rate was 0.9 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 1.6 percent. The region's December 2024 unemployment rate was 0.6 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 1,382,619, down 5,001 (-0.4 percent) over the year. There were 34,659 unemployed residents in the region.
- In December 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,356,700, an increase of 16,100 jobs (+1.2 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Mining, Logging, and Construction (+5,200 jobs); Education and Health Services (+4,300 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+3,100 jobs); Government (+2,800 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,700 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+1,600 jobs); Other Services (+1,500 jobs); and Information (+300 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in December 2024, unchanged from the November 2024 rate, and up 0.3 percentage point from a year ago. There were 377,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 11,008,000. The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in December.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 10,013,700 in December 2024, an increase of 18,000 jobs (+0.2 percent) over the month. The state gained 147,900 jobs over the year, an increase of 1.5 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 1.4 percent over the year
- Eight of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in December.
