Regional Partners Announce Upcoming Job-Readiness Workshop Series

January 30, 2020 | Filed under: CSBD News

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Jan. 30, 2020 – In an effort to assist individuals with obtaining the skills needed to find, acquire and keep a job, CareerSource Broward has teamed up with several Broward County Library branches and Prosperity Broward to conduct a series of professional workshops in local ZIP codes that have been identified as having above average levels of unemployment.

According to data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the unemployment rate in Broward County is 2.5%, which is below the national rate. However, recent statistics have shown that some communities within the county are still experiencing high levels of unemployment. The workshops in these targeted areas will focus on topics such as job-readiness preparation, building a résumé and cover letter, and learning effective interview skills – all key skills needed when looking to get hired in today’s labor market.

“South Florida has seen tremendous job growth over the years, yet we recognize that there are still those who face significant barriers toward employment and education opportunities,” said Mason C. Jackson, President/CEO of CareerSource Broward. “Seeing that reliable transportation can become a main obstacle for those who are looking for resources to help them secure a job, we’re bringing these workshops directly to the communities that need it the most so that they, too, can gain a competitive edge in their search for work.”

The seminars are taught by certified workforce professionals. There is no cost to attend any of the workshops. Details regarding registration for upcoming workshops can be provided by contacting the following libraries:
