Job Opportunities Wanted From Broward County Municipalities, Nonprofits

May 1, 2018

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – May 1, 2018 – In an effort to assist with ongoing Hurricane Maria recovery efforts, CareerSource Broward is administering grant funding to Broward County government agencies and nonprofits to help fill job openings with temporary workers from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The disaster relief grant, which was allocated by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, is designated for employment services to support evacuees impacted by Hurricane Maria, as well as to assist employers looking to fill open positions. The grant covers 100 percent of the wages for all employees hired by the employer, and CareerSource Broward will recruit workers based on the qualifications specified by the employer. A staffing agency will then become the employer of record, while also administering payroll and fringe benefits.

“Although last year’s hurricane season is well behind us, there are still many individuals from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands who have relocated to Florida and are seeking employment in order to support themselves and their families,” said Mason C. Jackson, President/CEO of CareerSource Broward. “This is a great opportunity for our local municipalities and nonprofit organizations to tap into this talent pool for some of their short-term or temporary hiring needs.”

Employers interested in hiring temporary workers are asked to complete and submit a job order request by visiting Funding will be provided on a firstcome, first-served basis.
