CareerSource Broward Recruiting Companies For Summer Work Program

January 12, 2021 | Filed under: CareerSource Broward News

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Jan. 12, 2021 – CareerSource Broward is actively recruiting Broward County employers to participate in its 2021 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Companies can host a young adult at NO COST – a savings of nearly $3,000 per each youth – thanks to the Children’s Services Council of Broward County and additional funders.

“Studies show that summer jobs for youth help create strong building blocks for success by giving them the opportunity to learn the value of earning their first paycheck, all while acquiring valuable soft skills that are needed in today’s job market,” said Carol Hylton, President/CEO of CareerSource Broward. “This is an exciting chance for the local business community to mentor youth who are eager to work during the summer. We strongly encourage employers to participate and be a part of shaping our future workforce.”

Youth between the ages of 16 and 18 will earn a wage of $8.65 per hour and can work up to 30 hours per week. The program begins June 14 and runs through August. Available jobs include clerical assistant or aide roles with government agencies, libraries, community organizations, for-profits, nonprofits and more. In an effort to promote a healthy and safe work environment for the youth, the program will also follow local, state and federal guidelines to ensure the safety of its participants and staff.

"Now more than ever, youth need an opportunity to gain life-long valuable skills so they can become productive, responsible adults. The Summer Youth Employment Program is a great way for us to invest in the lives of our youth by preparing them with the skills and mentorship needed to succeed,” said Cindy Arenberg Seltzer, President/CEO of the Children’s Services Council of Broward County.

Prior to the first day of work, each youth will receive employability skills training to prepare them for a successful summer. Training will focus on job-readiness skills, professionalism and workplace expectations.
