FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – June 25, 2020 – The CareerSource Broward Council of Elected Officials and the Broward Workforce Development Board Inc. announced the appointment of Carol Hylton to the position of President/CEO. Hylton, who was unanimously appointed by the Council, will replace outgoing President/CEO Mason C. Jackson and begin her new role starting July 1, 2020
“The mission of CareerSource Broward is now ever more important, and we know without a doubt that Carol is the best person suited to lead this effort for Broward County employers and employees in the months and years ahead,” said City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy, who also serves as Chair of the CareerSource Broward Council of Elected Officials.
“Carol brings passion, energy and leadership to her new role. We are thrilled with her appointment. Her combined 30 years of experience in social services and workforce development makes her the right person at this juncture in time,” said Dr. Lisa Knowles, Chair of the Broward Workforce Development Board Inc.”
Hylton, a critical member of the CareerSource Broward leadership team, was the executive vice president prior to stepping into her new position. Her hands-on approach and oversight of the organization’s $25 million budget, consisting of 16 different grants make her uniquely qualified to take over the helm of the agency.
“We are in uncertain times. The COVID-19 pandemic has unemployment rates at a historic level. Employers that are struggling to reopen their doors, and the demand for social reform is at the forefront of many conversations,” said Hylton. “CareerSource Broward represents hope and a future for our Broward County residents and citizens. I look forward to collaborating with our local public officials and community organizations to restore our local economy. I am honored to have been selected to lead our incredible team of dedicated professionals to serve the Broward County community.”
Prior to arriving at CareerSource Broward, Hylton served as the associate executive director at Child and Family Connections Inc. in West Palm Beach, Fla. She also served as the vice president of programs for the Urban League of Palm Beach County.
Jackson, who announced his retirement in March 2020, said “Carol is a tremendous leader; the organization is in great hands. She has the education and experience to respond to the challenges of an ever-changing labor market. I am confident that she will continue to promote the mission and vision of our dynamic organization in order to help create positive change for years to come.”
Hylton is a graduate of Columbia University, where she earned a master’s degree in social work. She and her husband, Gregory, have three children, Coleen, Jordan and Gregory Jr.
