Broward County October 2022 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's October 2022 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.6 percent in October 2022. This rate was 1.3 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 3.9 percent. The region's October 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 1,085,572, up 37,779 (+3.6 percent) over the year. There were 28,390 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2022, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach MD was 900,800, an increase of 36,300 jobs (+4.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+8,600 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+7,300 jobs); Education and Health Services (+6,100 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+5,300 jobs); Financial Activities (+2,500 jobs); Construction (+2,400 jobs); Other Services (+2,100 jobs); Manufacturing (+1,000 jobs); Government (+600 jobs); and Information (+400 jobs).
  • No industries lost jobs over the year.

Palm Beach County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.7 percent in October 2022. This rate was 0.8 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 3.5 percent. The region's October 2022 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 775,758, up 31,235 (+4.2 percent) over the year. There were 20,681 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2022, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 676,600, an increase of 30,600 jobs (+4.7 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+11,600 jobs); Education and Health Services (+6,900 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+4,600 jobs); Other Services (+2,300 jobs); Government (+1,500 jobs); Manufacturing (+1,300 jobs); Financial Activities (+1,000 jobs); Construction (+600 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+500 jobs); and Information (+300 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 1.7 percent in October 2022. This rate was 2.1 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 3.8 percent. The region's October 2022 unemployment rate was 1.0 percentage point lower than the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 1,382,800, up 16,691 (+1.2 percent) over the year. There were 23,627 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Miami-Dade County and Monroe County had the same unemployment rate (1.7 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region.
    • In October 2022, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,281,800, an increase of 75,000 jobs (+6.2 percent) over the year
    • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+24,000 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+15,300 jobs); Education and Health Services (+10,800 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+10,400 jobs); Financial Activities (+5,700 jobs); Manufacturing (+4,500 jobs); Other Services (+4,200 jobs); and Mining, Logging, and Construction (+600 jobs).

    State of Florida Unemployment Data

    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.7 percent in October 2022, up 0.2 percentage point from the September 2022 rate, and down 1.0 percentage point from a year ago. There were 285,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,750,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.7 percent in October.
    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,542,500 in October 2022, an increase of 36,400 jobs (+0.4 percent) over the month. The state gained 457,400 jobs over the year, an increase of 5.0 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 3.6 percent over the year.
    • Florida’s total nonagricultural and private sector employment surpassed the February 2020 (pre-pandemic) level in October 2021 and labor force surpassed the February 2020 level in June 2021. All nine major private sector industries have surpassed pre-pandemic employment levels.
    • Florida lost 1,282,500 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back all jobs lost (+1,749,500 jobs).
