Broward County October 2021 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's October 2021 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 4.2 percent in October 2021. This rate was 1.9 percentage points lower than the region's year-ago rate of 6.1 percent. The labor force was 1,062,260, up 57,893 (+5.8 percent) over the year. There were 44,786 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 843,400, an increase of 33,600 jobs (+4.1 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+13,400 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+5,300 jobs); education and health services (+5,000 jobs); construction (+3,800 jobs); other services (+3,300 jobs); professional and business services (+2,900 jobs); manufacturing (+400 jobs); and information (+400 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 4.0 percent in October 2021. This rate was 1.1 percentage points lower than the region's year-ago rate of 5.1 percent. The region's October 2021 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 4.0 percent. The labor force was 755,120, up 44,111 (+6.2 percent) over the year. There were 30,161 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2021 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 630,500, an increase of 24,400 jobs (+4.0 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+10,000 jobs); professional and business services (+3,900 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+3,700 jobs); education and health services (+3,700 jobs); construction (+1,700 jobs); other services (+1,500 jobs); financial activities (+1,300 jobs); manufacturing (+800 jobs); and information (+500 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 3.8 percent in October 2021. This rate was 4.5 percentage points lower than the region's year-ago rate of 8.3 percent. The region's October 2021 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 4.0 percent. The labor force was 1,390,233, up 40,325 (+3.0 percent) over the year. There were 52,154 unemployed residents in the region.
  • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (2.5 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (3.8 percent).
  • In October 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,182,200, an increase of 69,300 jobs (+6.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+21,800 jobs); professional and business services (+21,500 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+14,400 jobs); financial activities (+5,500 jobs); other services (+4,000 jobs); education and health services (+1,400 jobs); government (+600 jobs); manufacturing (+500 jobs); and information (+300 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data

  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in October 2021, down 0.2 percentage point from the revised September 2021 rate, and down 1.2 percentage points from a year ago. There were 491,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,590,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in October.
  • Florida lost 1,269,200 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back 86.6 percent of the jobs lost (+1,099,500 jobs).
  • The number of jobs in Florida was 8,902,400 in October 2021, up 428,600 jobs compared to a year ago. All ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in October.
  • The October 2021 total nonagricultural employment has not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
