Broward County October 2020 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's October 2020 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 7.3 percent in October 2020. This rate was 4.5 percentage point higher than the region's year ago rate of 2.8 percent. The labor force was 1,018,346, down 35,383 (-3.4) over the year. There were 74,411 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2020 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division was 807,100, a decrease of 63,100 jobs (-7.3 percent) over the year.
  • The industry gaining in jobs over the year was financial activities (+400 jobs). The leisure and hospitality (-23,200 jobs); professional and business services (-8,500 jobs); education and health services (-8,300 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (-6,900 jobs); construction (-6,200 jobs); other services (-3,600 jobs); government (-2,800 jobs); manufacturing (-2,400 jobs); and information (-1,600 jobs) industries lost jobs over the year.

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 6.1 percent in October 2020. This rate was 3.0 percentage point higher than the region's year ago rate of 3.1 percent. The region's October 2020 unemployment rate was 0.3 percentage point lower than the state rate of 6.4 percent. The labor force was 706,665, down 30,647 (-4.2) over the year. There were 43,299 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In October 2020 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Bch-Boca Raton-Delray Bch Metro Division was 597,500, a decrease of 41,000 jobs (-6.4 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were: construction (+200 jobs). The leisure and hospitality (-16,800 jobs); education and health services (-6,100 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (-5,600 jobs); professional and business services (-5,000 jobs); government (-2,800 jobs); other services (-2,500 jobs); manufacturing (-900 jobs); information (-800 jobs); and financial activities (-700 jobs) industries lost jobs over the year.

Miami-Dade/Monroe

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 8.7 percent in October 2020. This rate was 6.7 percentage point higher than the region's year ago rate of 2.0 percent. The labor force was 1,391,077, down 55,341 (-3.8) over the year. There were 120,923 unemployed residents in the region.
  • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (4.6 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (8.8 percent).
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were mining, logging, and construction (+1,500 jobs); manufacturing (+1,100 jobs); and financial activities (+900 jobs). The leisure and hospitality (-26,900 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (-14,000 jobs); government (-13,200 jobs); education and health services (-11,900 jobs); professional and business services (-7,200 jobs); other services (-4,700 jobs); and information (-500 jobs) industries lost jobs over the year.
