Broward County November 2021 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's November 2021 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.8 percent in November 2021. This rate was 1.4 percentage points lower than the region's year-ago rate of 5.2 percent. The labor force was 1,053,694, up 57,845 (+5.8 percent) over the year. There were 39,980 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In November 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 849,000, an increase of 34,900 jobs (+4.3 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+8,900 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+7,000 jobs); construction (+5,700 jobs); professional and business services (+4,200 jobs); education and health services (+4,200 jobs); other services (+2,100 jobs); manufacturing (+1,400 jobs); government (+800 jobs); and information (+700 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.5 percent in November 2021. This rate was 0.9 percentage point lower than the region's year-ago rate of 4.4 percent. The region's November 2021 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point below the state rate of 3.6 percent. The labor force was 756,082, up 48,868 (+6.9 percent) over the year. There were 26,537 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In November 2021 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 641,900, an increase of 31,000 jobs (+5.1 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+10,600 jobs); education and health services (+6,700 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+4,300 jobs); professional and business services (+3,900 jobs); construction (+2,000 jobs); financial activities (+1,900 jobs); other services (+1,500 jobs); manufacturing (+1,000 jobs); and information (+600 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 3.6 percent in November 2021. This rate was 4.5 percentage points lower than the region's year-ago rate of 8.1 percent. The region's November 2021 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 3.6 percent. The labor force was 1,401,534, up 59,525 (+4.4 percent) over the year. There were 50,575 unemployed residents in the region.
  • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (2.2 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (3.7 percent).
  • In November 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,197,800, an increase of 70,100 jobs (+6.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were professional and business services (+22,600 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+19,800 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+15,600 jobs); financial activities (+5,600 jobs); other services (+5,100 jobs); government (+2,300 jobs); information (+300 jobs); and manufacturing (+100 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data

  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in November 2021, down 0.1 percentage point from the October 2021 rate, and down 0.9 percentage point from a year ago. There were 483,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,632,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in November.
  • Florida lost 1,269,200 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back 91.2 percent of the jobs lost (+1,157,300 jobs).
  • The number of jobs in Florida was 8,960,200 in November 2021, up 485,600 jobs compared to a year ago. All ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in November.
  • The November 2021 total nonagricultural employment has not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
