Broward County March 2022 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's March 2022 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.8 percent in March 2022. This rate was 2.8 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.6 percent. The region's March 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 1,039,821, up 26,573 (+2.6 percent) over the year. There were 28,807 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In March 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 864,000, an increase of 33,900 jobs (+4.1 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+9,800 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+9,100 jobs); professional and business services (+6,400 jobs); financial activities (+2,900 jobs); information (+1,900 jobs); manufacturing (+1,500 jobs); other services (+1,400 jobs); construction (+900 jobs); and government (+400 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.6 percent in March 2022. This rate was 2.3 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 4.9 percent. The region's March 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point below the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 751,293, up 27,727 (+3.8 percent) over the year. There were 19,235 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In March 2022 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 659,700, an increase of 32,700 jobs (+5.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+10,800 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+7,900 jobs); education and health services (+5,100 jobs); financial activities (+3,200 jobs), other services (+2,600 jobs); manufacturing (+1,000 jobs); construction (+900 jobs); information (+700 jobs); and government (+600 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.9 percent in March 2022. This rate was 3.7 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 6.6 percent. The region's March 2022 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point higher than the state rate of 2.7 percent. The labor force was 1,382,798, up 60,576 (+4.6 percent) over the year. There were 40,243 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.7 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (3.0 percent).
    • In March 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,235,100, an increase of 80,500 jobs (+7.0 percent) over the year.
    • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+25,300 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+22,200 jobs); professional and business services (+16,900 jobs); education and health services (+7,000 jobs); other services (+2,900 jobs)

    State of Florida Unemployment Data

    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in March 2022, down 0.1 percentage point from the February 2022 rate, and down 2.2 percentage points from a year ago. There were 339,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,513,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in March.
    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,231,500 in March 2022, an increase of 10,200 jobs (+0.1 percent) over the month. The state gained 497,800 jobs over the year, an increase of 5.7 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 4.5 percent over the year.
    • Florida’s total nonagricultural and private sector employment surpassed the February 2020 (pre-pandemic) level in October 2021 and labor force surpassed the February 2020 level in June 2021.
    • Florida lost 1,282,500 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back all jobs lost (+1,434,500 jobs).
