Broward County June 2022 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's June 2022 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.0 percent in June 2022. This rate was 2.5 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.5 percent. The Region's June 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 2.9 percent. The labor force was 1,065,846, up 33,339 (+3.2 percent) over the year. There were 31,920 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In June 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 869,000, an increase of 36,800 jobs (+4.4 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were professional and business services (+13,100 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+9,400 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+9,300 jobs); financial activities (+2,200 jobs); manufacturing (+1,200 jobs); information (+1,100 jobs); other services (+1,100 jobs); construction (+700 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.0 percent in June 2022. This rate was 1.9 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 4.9 percent. The region's June 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage points above the state rate of 2.9 percent. The labor force was 763,694, up 29,304 (+4.0 percent) over the year. There were 22,917 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In June 2022 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 656,500, an increase of 31,800 jobs (+5.1 percent) over the year
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+10,100 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+5,300 jobs); education and health services (+4,600 jobs); other services (+3,300 jobs); professional and business services (+3,200 jobs); financial activities (+1,800 jobs); construction (+1,400 jobs); manufacturing (+900 jobs); government (+700 jobs); and information (+500 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.1 percent in June 2022. This rate was 3.6 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.7 percent. The region's June 2022 unemployment rate was 0.8 percentage points lower than the state rate of 2.9 percent. The labor force was 1,374,170, up 30,589 (+2.3 percent) over the year. There were 29,410 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.9 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region, followed by Miami-Dade County (2.2 percent).
    • In June 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,242,700, an increase of 84,600 jobs (+7.3 percent) over the year.
    • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were trade, transportation, and utilities (+27,100 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+18,900 jobs); professional and business services (+14,600 jobs); education and health services (+8,300 jobs); manufacturing (+4,900 jobs); other services (+4,000 jobs); financial activities (+3,500 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (+2,800 jobs); and information (+1,100 jobs).

    State of Florida Unemployment Data

    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.8 percent in June 2022, down 0.1 percentage point from the revised May 2022 rate, and down 2.0 percentage points from a year ago. There were 303,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,633,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in June.
    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,344,500 in June 2022, an increase of 30,600 jobs (+0.3 percent) over the month. The state gained 453,600 jobs over the year, an increase of 5.1 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 4.3 percent over the year.
    • Florida’s total nonagricultural and private sector employment surpassed the February 2020 (pre-pandemic) level in October 2021 and labor force surpassed the February 2020 level in June 2021.
    • Florida lost 1,282,500 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back all jobs lost (+1,551,500 jobs).
