Broward County June 2021 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's June 2021 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 5.7 percent in June 2021. This rate was 8.3 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 14.0 percent. The region's June 2021 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 5.7 percent. The labor force was 1,055,676, up 33,703 (+3.3) over the year. There were 60,664 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In June 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 816,900, an increase of 34,800 jobs (+4.4 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+16,600 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+7,000 jobs); education and health services (+3,200 jobs); other services (+3,000 jobs); construction (+1,900 jobs); professional and business services (+1,600 jobs); government (+800 jobs); information (+500 jobs); and financial activities (+500 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 5.3 percent in June 2021. This rate was 6.2 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 11.5 percent. The region's June 2021 unemployment rate was 0.4 percentage point lower than the state rate of 5.7 percent. The labor force was 753,074, up 46,677 (+6.6) over the year. There were 40,254 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In June 2021 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach
    Metro Division was 614,400, an increase of 30,200 jobs (+5.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+11,700 jobs); education and health services (+5,600 jobs); professional and business services (+5,100 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+4,500 jobs); financial activities (+1,600 jobs); other services (+1,500 jobs); manufacturing (+800 jobs); construction (+600 jobs); and information (+500 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 6.9 percent in June 2021. This rate was 3.3 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 10.2 percent. The labor force was 1,369,877, up 140,166 (+11.4) over the year. There were 94,920 unemployed residents in the region.
  • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (3.5 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (7.1 percent).
  • In June 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,139,300, an increase of 45,300 jobs (+4.1 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+19,100 jobs); professional and business services (+17,500 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+7,300 jobs); other services (+5,300 jobs); financial activities (+4,000 jobs); manufacturing (+1,200 jobs); and information (+400 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data

  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in June 2021, up 0.1 percentage point from the May 2021 rate, and down 6.6 percentage points from a year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in June.
  • There were 523,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,398,000.
  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,698,200 in June 2021, an increase of 81,300 jobs (+0.9 percent) over the month. The state gained 358,300 jobs over the year, an increase of 4.3 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 5.7 percent over the year.
  • The June 2021 labor force statistics and the total nonagricultural employment have not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
