Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's July 2024 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.
Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.6 percent in July 2024. This rate was 0.5 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 3.1 percent. The region's July 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.8 percent. The labor force was 1,095,776, up 7,081 (+0.7 percent) over the year. There were 39,130 unemployed residents in the region.
- In July 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach MD was 924,600, an increase of 24,200 jobs (+2.7 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+5,200 jobs); Education and Health Services (+4,500 jobs); Government (+4,300 jobs); Construction (+3,500 jobs); Other Services (+3,500 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+3,400 jobs); and Professional and Business Services (+1,100 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.8 percent in July 2024. This rate was 0.5 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 3.3 percent. The region's July 2024 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 3.8 percent. The labor force was 780,205, down 1,276 (-0.2 percent) over the year. There were 29,798 unemployed residents in the region.
- In July 2024, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 694,000, an increase of 12,800 jobs (+1.9 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+4,100 jobs); Construction (+3,400 jobs); Government (+2,100 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+2,000 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,600 jobs); and Manufacturing (+400 jobs).

Miami-Dade County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade County) was 3.1 percent in July 2024. This rate was 1.2 percentage points greater than the region's year ago rate of 1.9 percent. The region's July 2024 unemployment rate was 0.7 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.8 percent. The labor force was 1,396,944, up 11,914 (+0.9 percent) over the year. There were 42,822 unemployed residents in the region.
- In July 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,325,700, an increase of 38,300 jobs (+3.0 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+9,300 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+7,200 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+7,100 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+6,400 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+4,000 jobs); Government (+2,900 jobs); Other Services (+1,200 jobs); and Financial Activities (+400 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in July 2024, unchanged from the June 2024 rate, and up 0.4 percentage point from a year ago. There were 366,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 11,056,000. The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in July.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,989,800 in July 2024, an increase of 21,800 jobs (+0.2 percent) over the month. The state gained 229,500 jobs over the year, an increase of 2.4 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 1.6 percent over the year.
- Nine of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in July.
