Broward County July 2022 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's July 2022 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.9 percent in July 2022. This rate was 2.2 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.1 percent. The region's July 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 2.8 percent. The labor force was 1,071,543, up 33,758 (+3.3 percent) over the year. There were 30,619 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In July 2022, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach MD was 875,000, an increase of 34,100 jobs (+4.1 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Professional and Business Services (+10,200 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+6,700 jobs); Education and Health Services (+5,800 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+5,600 jobs); Financial Activities (+2,000 jobs); Construction (+1,500 jobs); Manufacturing (+800 jobs); Information (+700 jobs); Other Services (+500 jobs); and Government (+300 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.9 percent in July 2022. This rate was 1.7 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 4.6 percent. The region's July 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 2.8 percent. The labor force was 767,604, up 27,980 (+3.8 percent) over the year. There were 22,320 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In July 2022, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 661,100, an increase of 28,800 jobs (+4.6 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+9,200 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+5,200 jobs); Other Services (+4,700 jobs); Education and Health Services (+4,600 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+1,100 jobs); Construction (+1,000 jobs); Financial Activities (+900 jobs); Government (+900 jobs); Manufacturing (+800 jobs); and Information (+400 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.3 percent in July 2022. This rate was 2.9 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.2 percent. The region's July 2022 unemployment rate was 0.5 percentage point lower than the state rate of 2.8 percent. The labor force was 1,368,957, down 2,304 (-0.2 percent) over the year. There were 30,837 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.7 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (2.3 percent).
    • In July 2022, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,253,200, an increase of 80,000 jobs (+6.8 percent) over the year.
    • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+24,500 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+15,500 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+13,100 jobs); Education and Health Services (+12,200 jobs); Manufacturing (+4,800 jobs); Financial Activities (+3,700 jobs); Other Services (+3,600 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+3,300 jobs); and Information (+300 jobs).

    State of Florida Unemployment Data

    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.7 percent in July 2022, down 0.1 percentage point from the June 2022 rate, and down 1.8 percentage points from a year ago. There were 283,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,658,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in July.
    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,433,400 in July 2022, an increase of 73,800 jobs (+0.8 percent) over the month. The state gained 437,800 jobs over the year, an increase of 4.9 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 4.2 percent over the year.
    • Florida’s total nonagricultural and private sector employment surpassed the February 2020 (pre-pandemic) level in October 2021 and labor force surpassed the February 2020 level in June 2021.
    • Florida lost 1,282,500 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back all jobs lost (+1,640,400 jobs).
