Broward County July 2021 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's July 2021 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 5.1 percent in July 2021. This rate was 8.5 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 13.6 percent. The region's July 2021 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 5.1 percent. The labor force was 1,058,552, up 24,272 (+2.3) over the year. There were 54,181 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In July 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 817,100, an increase of 33,700 jobs (+4.3 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+16,900 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+6,100 jobs); other services (+3,500 jobs); education and health services (+3,300 jobs); construction (+2,000 jobs); professional and business services (+1,400 jobs); government (+600 jobs); and information (+500 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 4.8 percent in July 2021. This rate was 6.7 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 11.5 percent. The region's July 2021 unemployment rate was 0.3 percentage point lower than the state rate of 5.1 percent. The labor force was 757,191, up 40,211 (+5.6) over the year. There were 36,626 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In July 2021 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 616,300, an increase of 32,400 jobs (+5.5 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+12,400 jobs); professional and business services (+6,900 jobs); education and health services (+5,800 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+4,100 jobs); other services (+1,700 jobs); financial activities (+1,100 jobs); construction (+800 jobs); manufacturing (+700 jobs); and information (+600 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 6.4 percent in July 2021. This rate was 8.6 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 15.0 percent. The labor force was 1,414,934, up 104,195 (+7.9) over the year. There were 90,224 unemployed residents in the region.
  • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (3.1 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (6.5 percent).
  • In July 2021 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,145,000, an increase of 56,700 jobs (+5.2 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+24,600 jobs); professional and business services (+16,300 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+9,000 jobs); financial activities (+5,400 jobs); education and health services (+4,800 jobs); other services (+3,900 jobs); manufacturing (+800 jobs); and information (+300 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data

  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in July 2021, up 0.1 percentage point from the June 2021 rate, and down 6.4 percentage points from a year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.4 percent in July.
  • There were 530,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,479,000.
  • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,756,300 in July 2021, an increase of 68,100 jobs (+0.8 percent) over the month. The state gained 356,700 jobs over the year, an increase of 4.2 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 5.2 percent over the year.
  • The July 2021 total nonagricultural employment has not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
