Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's August 2023 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.



Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.1 percent in August 2023. This rate was 0.2 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.9 percent. The region's August 2023 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 1,110,853, up 37,570 (+3.5 percent) over the year. There were 34,491 unemployed residents in the region.
- In August 2023, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano BeachDeerfield Beach MD was 905,700, an increase of 17,000 jobs (+1.9 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Professional and Business Services (+6,000 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+5,000 jobs); Financial Activities (+2,900 jobs); Education and Health Services (+2,400 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,400 jobs); and Other Services (+800 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.3 percent in August 2023. This rate was 0.2 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 3.1 percent. The region's August 2023 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point above the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 785,807, up 19,423 (+2.5 percent) over the year. There were 26,317 unemployed residents in the region.
- In August 2023, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 675,100, an increase of 7,100 jobs (+1.1 percent) over the year
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+3,800 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+3,200 jobs); Education and Health Services (+2,600 jobs); Government (+2,200 jobs); Manufacturing (+400 jobs); and Financial Activities (+200 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 1.9 percent in August 2023. This rate was 1.0 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 2.9 percent. The region's August 2023 unemployment rate was 1.2 percentage points lower than the state rate of 3.1 percent. The labor force was 1,434,444, up 4,257 (+0.3 percent) over the year. There were 27,010 unemployed residents in the region.
- Miami-Dade County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.9 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Monroe County (2.0 percent).
- In August 2023, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,302,200, an increase of 43,000 jobs (+3.4 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+11,800 jobs); Education and Health Services (+11,300 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+9,400 jobs); Government (+6,100 jobs); Other Services (+3,400 jobs); Manufacturing (+3,300 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+2,200 jobs); and Financial Activities (+800 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.7 percent in August 2023, unchanged from the July 2023 rate, and unchanged from a year ago. There were 303,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 11,121,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in August.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,778,000 in August 2023, an increase of 14,600 jobs (+0.1 percent) over the month. The state gained 270,300 jobs over the year, an increase of 2.8 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 2.0 percent over the year.
- Nine of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in August.
