Below is the latest data released by FloridaCommerce for Broward County's April 2024 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 3.1 percent in April 2024. This rate was 0.7 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.4 percent. The region's April 2024 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than the state rate of 3.2 percent. The labor force was 1,095,618, up 18,549 (+1.7 percent) over the year. There were 33,772 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In April 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach MD was 932,000, an increase of 23,200 jobs (+2.6 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+6,700 jobs); Education and Health Services (+5,200 jobs); Government (+4,500 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+4,300 jobs); Other Services (+3,400 jobs); and Construction (+1,300 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 3.2 percent in April 2024. This rate was 0.8 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 2.4 percent. The region's April 2024 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 3.2 percent. The labor force was 782,118, up 5,559 (+0.7 percent) over the year. There were 24,974 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In April 2024, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 701,500, an increase of 9,900 jobs (+1.4 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+6,100 jobs); Government (+2,800 jobs); Construction (+2,600 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+2,200 jobs); Manufacturing (+500 jobs); and Leisure and Hospitality (+300 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.1 percent in April 2024. This rate was 0.3 percentage point greater than the region's year ago rate of 1.8 percent. The region's April 2024 unemployment rate was 1.1 percentage points lower than the state rate of 3.2 percent. The labor force was 1,434,956, up 10,138 (+0.7 percent) over the year. There were 30,775 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (2.0 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (2.1 percent).
    • In April 2024, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,334,500, an increase of 37,300 jobs (+2.9 percent) over the year.
    • The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+11,200 jobs); Education and Health Services (+7,000 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+4,900 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+4,500 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+2,800 jobs); Government (+2,800 jobs); Manufacturing (+2,000 jobs); Financial Activities (+1,100 jobs); and Other Services (+1,100 jobs).
