Broward County April 2023 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's April 2023 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.



Broward County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.3 percent in April 2023. This rate was 0.4 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 2.7 percent. The region's April 2023 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 2.3 percent. The labor force was 1,083,332, up 28,204 (+2.7 percent) over the year. There were 24,633 unemployed residents in the region.
- In April 2023, nonagricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach MD was 902,700, an increase of 18,900 jobs (+2.1 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Professional and Business Services (+6,600 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+6,400 jobs); Education and Health Services (+6,200 jobs); Financial Activities (+2,300 jobs); Other Services (+1,200 jobs); Manufacturing (+300 jobs); and Leisure and Hospitality (+300 jobs).

Palm Beach County¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.3 percent in April 2023. This rate was 0.3 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 2.6 percent. The region's April 2023 unemployment rate was equal to the state rate of 2.3 percent. The labor force was 775,034, up 15,170 (+2.0 percent) over the year. There were 17,854 unemployed residents in the region.
- In April 2023, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach MD was 680,200, an increase of 10,700 jobs (+1.6 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Leisure and Hospitality (+4,500 jobs); Education and Health Services (+4,300 jobs); Government (+2,000 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+1,700 jobs); Financial Activities (+900 jobs); and Manufacturing (+600 jobs).

Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties¹
- The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 1.8 percent in April 2023. This rate was 0.8 percentage point lower than the region's year ago rate of 2.6 percent. The region's April 2023 unemployment rate was 0.5 percentage point lower than the state rate of 2.3 percent. The labor force was 1,438,869, up 28,391 (+2.0 percent) over the year. There were 25,897 unemployed residents in the region.
- Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.4 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region followed by Miami-Dade County (1.8 percent).
- In April 2023, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall MD was 1,292,300, an increase of 48,600 jobs (+3.9 percent) over the year.
- The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+11,800 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+11,600 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+10,500 jobs); Government (+6,100 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+4,700 jobs); Manufacturing (+2,700 jobs); Other Services (+2,000 jobs); and Financial Activities (+1,800 jobs).

State of Florida Unemployment Data
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.6 percent in April 2023, unchanged from the March 2023 rate, and down 0.4 percentage point from a year ago. There were 281,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,960,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in April.
- Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,704,700 in April 2023, an increase of 21,200 jobs (+0.2 percent) over the month. The state gained 363,400 jobs over the year, an increase of 3.9 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 2.6 percent over the year.
- Nine of ten major industries experienced positive over-the-year job growth in April.
