Broward County April 2022 Unemployment Data

Below is the latest data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Broward County's April 2022 unemployment rate. Also included is information for the South Florida area.

Broward County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Broward region (Broward County) was 2.5 percent in April 2022. This rate was 2.8 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.3 percent. The Region's April 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 2.4 percent. The labor force was 1,042,829, up 24,726 (+2.4 percent) over the year. There were 26,176 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In April 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 867,100, an increase of 32,300 jobs (+3.9 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were trade, transportation, and utilities (+10,400 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+8,700 jobs); professional and business services (+7,200 jobs); financial activities (+3,100 jobs); information (+1,600 jobs); manufacturing (+1,300 jobs); other services (+1,300 jobs); construction (+600 jobs); and government (+300 jobs).

Palm Beach County

  • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Palm Beach County region (Palm Beach County) was 2.3 percent in April 2022. This rate was 2.2 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 4.5 percent. The region's April 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage points below the state rate of 2.4 percent. The labor force was 754,909, up 29,027 (+4.0 percent) over the year. There were 17,262 unemployed residents in the region.
  • In April 2022 nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Delray Beach Metro Division was 662,800, an increase of 33,800 jobs (+5.4 percent) over the year.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were leisure and hospitality (+12,000 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+7,100 jobs); professional and business services (+3,500 jobs); financial activities (+2,900 jobs); education and health services (+2,600 jobs); other services (+2,300 jobs); construction (+900 jobs); manufacturing (+900 jobs); information (+800 jobs); and government (+800 jobs).

    Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties

    • The unemployment rate in the CareerSource South Florida region (Miami-Dade and Monroe counties) was 2.5 percent in April 2022. This rate was 3.5 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 6.0 percent. The region's April 2022 unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage points higher than the state rate of 2.4 percent. The labor force was 1,373,454, up 23,101 (+1.7 percent) over the year. There were 34,647 unemployed residents in the region.
    • Monroe County had the lowest unemployment rate (1.5 percent) in the CareerSource South Florida region, followed by Miami-Dade County (2.6 percent).
    • In April 2022 nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,238,000, an increase of 77,100 jobs (+6.6 percent) over the year.
    • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were trade, transportation, and utilities (+23,900 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+22,500 jobs); professional and business services (+13,600 jobs); education and health services (+5,300 jobs); financial activities (+4,000 jobs); manufacturing (+2,900 jobs); other services (+2,500 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (+2,200 jobs); and information (+1,000 jobs).

    State of Florida Unemployment Data

    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.0 percent in April 2022, down 0.2 percentage point from the March 2022 rate, and down 2.1 percentage points from a year ago. There were 321,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,543,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in April.
    • Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 9,292,600 in April 2022, an increase of 58,600 jobs (+0.6 percent) over the month. The state gained 517,100 jobs over the year, an increase of 5.9 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 4.6 percent over the year.
    • Florida’s total nonagricultural and private sector employment surpassed the February 2020 (pre-pandemic) level in October 2021 and labor force surpassed the February 2020 level in June 2021.
    • Florida lost 1,282,500 jobs from February to April 2020 and has since gained back all jobs lost (+1,499,600 jobs).
